Every September comes my annual trip to Las Vegas to attend the International Bicycle Exposition. We have a few clients to visit, Electra Bicycles -Trek, ParkTool and my french connection, 100 Percent – Ride 100 percent ; cool products, great website. The bicycle industry is a mix of design, technology and fashion which makes it a really interesting world to be a part of. “Lighter, faster, stronger” are the magic words leading to research and innovation. Combined with the fun nature of the products, the result is the juxtaposition of cool high-tech textures and patterns (aluminium, carbon, Kevlar), flashy colors and cool graphics. The exposition is the opportunity to discover revolutionary ideas, new materials and design trends. In addition, bicycle company websites are usually modern, up-to-date and visually appealing.

There would be plenty of details to point out, but here are a few ones illustrated in this Photo Gallery. In addition of “Lighter, faster, stronger” you can add “smaller” which includes embedded lights, magnets, cameras. Today LED’s require so little power and cameras are so small they can be molded into an helmet and be charged via USB. Magnets are being used to attach accessories. Bell and Giro had some really slick eye shades that are held in place with magnets.Torch bicycle helmet with integrated lights

Smith Optics came with a crazy lightweight helmet, made with a EPS and Koroyd honeycomb material. Descent website, nothing-mind blowing… which I believe is safe to say from an helmet company. All this with accents of lime green, aqua blue, magenta. Colors I have seen everywhere at this convention. Santa Cruz 2015 bikes collection was really well executed in term of color harmony. Finally you have all this high-adrenaline technology commingled with old good fashion vintage brands

Even if a round trip to Las Vegas is a long day, I always manage to get an ersatz of France by stopping at the Paris casino to get “un pain au chocolat” or a “Steak frites au poivre” at Mon Ami Gabi restaurant.
